I first met Monsignor Joseph Kimu, Vicar General of the Mangochi Diocese and rector of St. John the Baptist Major Seminary, at Christmastime in 2001 when he asked for a copy of my book, Daily Prayers with the Saints for the New Millennium, to share with his major seminarians. Since then, he received a whole case of the books and translated it into the local language for Radio Maria, which spreads the love of Christ and the peace of his kingdom to the people of Malawi.

I arrived in Malawi after four planes and two overnight flights. I made it to the other side of the world without a problem, not one problem, thanks to all the prayers and glory be to God! The flights were on time, no luggage was lost, and I even managed to get some sleep here and there on the planes and in the airports while waiting for the planes. Mons. Joseph picked me up at the small Blantyre airport mid-afternoon. Also greeting me were Titani and little Amanda-Marie, the grandchild of Flossie from the Good News Emmaus Journey e-group. It was dark by the time we arrived at the seminary. It's winter here and the days are short, and we ran a few errands while in Blantyre, including helping an old drunk who had fallen from his bike and was lying beside the road; bystanders loaded him into the back of our pick-up truck and we drove him to a health clinic. Below is an early morning photo; on the second floor one of the Fathers who teaches at the seminary is saying his morning prayers -- can you find him?
